Surprise birthday party invitation wording
A surprise birthday invitation needs one extra instruction: keep it from the birthday person. Check who is receiving the message before sharing the plan.
Replace the brackets below with your details. Give guests an arrival time separately from the birthday person's arrival so nobody meets at the door by accident.
Inviting friends to meet in person
Include the address and when guests should arrive. Collect replies in a conversation that does not include the birthday person.
- Keep this quiet: we're celebrating [name]'s birthday! Meet at [place] by [guest arrival time] on [date]. [Name] arrives at [honoree arrival time]. Please reply to me by [RSVP deadline]. It's a surprise!
- Let's share birthday cake with [name]. We'll meet at [time] before they arrive. If you're running late, message [contact] before coming in. The address is [address]. Keep the plan between us!
- We're planning a small birthday surprise for [name] at [place] on [date and time]. Let me know by [RSVP deadline] whether you can come. No worries if you can't. Please save any posts or invitation screenshots until after the surprise.
Including friends who cannot attend
Make it clear that leaving a birthday message and attending the party are separate choices.
- We're collecting birthday messages for [name]. Even if you can't come, leave a few words at [invitation link] by [date and time]. Please don't send this preparation link to the birthday person yet.
- Let's celebrate [name] from wherever we are! Add a birthday note at [invitation link]; a short one is fine. I'll share it with them on their birthday. Reply here about attendance, and use the link for your message.
- Here's the plan for [name]'s birthday: meet at [place and time], or add a message online by [date and time]. Join whichever way works for you. Ask me privately if you need the entry code.
Two checks before you send
Check the recipients and notifications
Keep the invitation out of group chats that include the birthday person. Message friends separately if they are together and notification previews could reveal the plan. If it reaches the wrong person, don't rely only on deleting it.
Use the right link
The Chuka invitation link is for friends to write their messages. The reveal link is for the birthday person. Chuka does not send it automatically on the birthday; choose someone to deliver it and set a reminder.
